*GASP* It’s already June?? When did that happen??
In my life this week…
So it’s officially the first summer month, although our summer kind of starts when my husband, a college professor, finishes up at the beginning of May. Now, however, the summer pressure is on! I feel it anyway. So much to do! Nothing much gets done in the way of projects when my husband is heavy into his semester work so our summer to-do list is a mile long.
For Memorial Day weekend, my sister and her family visited, and today my mom and dad are making their way west to come see my daughter’s recital which is Saturday.
In our homeschool this week…
We’re studying ancient China, mainly just reading different books, and discussing cool things like the Great Wall and the Terra Cotta Soldiers. The highlight for the kids was definitely our summer kick-off potluck and water-fun day with the homeschool group. I forgot to take pictures, but trust me, it was great, and they were drenched when we made our way home.
Helpful homeschool tips or advice to share…
Be patient when kids forget something you just taught them the day before. Frustration and heavy sighs are not motivating. Not speaking from experience or anything. Just sayin’.
I am inspired by…
My husband’s work ethic and dedication. He just completed his Doctor of Musical Arts degree after ten years of plugging away at it. It is not easy to complete a project that huge with a full-time job, a part-time job and a family with four children. And even harder to do it without letting any of those other things suffer. He is amazing!
My favorite thing this week was…
More notebooking with the kids using my new Notebooking Pages stash. Our printer died and so I forwarded my husband the link to the Basic Lined pages pdf to print at school. I had no idea there were over 200 pages in the set!! Hubby came home with a 2 inch stack and said, “I didn’t realize you were having me print off so much.” Neither did I! But we’ve since used some for language arts (a grammar page and a reading narration page) and for copywork of 1 Corinthians chapter 13. I had them write their names in place of the word love so they can see where we can pray for God to help them improve.
What’s working/not working for us…
We finally got a new printer…TA-DA!
It’s an HP Photosmart 7510 and so far it’s been easy to use and prints beautifully. We’ve never had a wireless printer before and I think I’m love.
Questions/thoughts I have…
I’m thinking very sadly {*sniff*} about my poor feedburner account. I lost more than half my subscribers when I made the switch to WordPress even though I did everything I was supposed to do to make the switch seamless. So if you were subscribed before, please resubscribe! If you’ve never subscribed, you are cordially invited to do so. Let’s connect more often!
Things I’m working on…
I’m teaching Sunday School this weekend, and a number of times in the summer, so I’m preparing for that. I’m also heading to the NE Homeschool Convention in two weeks (Yay!!!) and need to start preparing for my time there so it’s as productive as it can be. If you are heading to a convention soon, check out my vlog and printables especially made for preparing you to attend a convention weekend.
I’m reading…
Well, I’m not reading it yet, but after waiting for months for it to be my turn in the reserve queue, I got a book at the library called “Quiet: The Power of Introverts in a World That Can’t Stop Talking”. As one who gets really worn out by being around a lot of people (and sometimes even a small amount of people), I’m looking forward to what this author has to say!
I’m grateful for…
A break in the hot weather! We felt more like Florida or Texas this past weekend. It was awful. But tomorrow night should drop into the 40′s. Ahhhh, gotta love Ohio weather! Changes on a dime.
I’m praying for…
Peace in our home. There has been more bickering than usual, probably due to the more relaxed schedule. I hope it stops soon! The other day, after a ton of snarky nastiness, I actually made my daughter (9) and my youngest son (5) sit on the step and hold hands until I was completely convinced they adored each other. Within 3 or 4 minutes, they were giggling and making goo-goo eyes at each other in the attempt to convince me. It was so cute.
